Imatra’s town brook

The town brook is a tourist attraction that presents the area’s history and geology in a novel way.

A town brook around one kilometre long was established in the Kruununpuisto park area of the town close to Imatrankoski hydro electrical power plant. The brook is in two sections: the landscaped upper section located between the Imatrankoski hydro electrical power plant dam and the street known as Imatrankoskentie, and the natural lower section, which extends over the area between Imatrankoskentie and the Vuoksi river. The lower section of the brook was built to promote fishing. The aim was to create the best possible conditions for trout to breed and their offspring to thrive.

The town brook is a tourist attraction that presents the area’s history and geology in a novel way. The brook enhances the beauty of the central park area and is an important element in attracting more visitors to the area. The aim too is to improve trout spawning habitats.
