Lammassaari Shore Trail

Holidays by Lake Saimaa, Lappeenranta and Imatra regionLammassaari shore trail in winterHolidays in Lake Saimaa regionHiking by Lake Saimaa, Imatra region

Beautiful views out over Lake Saimaa

Lammassaari is a beautiful ridge island that was formed after the Ice Age at the same time as the First Salpausselkä, where the Ukonniemi outdoor recreation area is located. Lammassaari is part of the Ukonniemi outdoor recreation area. The nature trail starts at the end of the embankment leading to Lammassaari. The nature trail around Lammassaari is easy to follow and does not have large differences in altitude. The total length of the trail is 3.7 km and there are 31 checkpoints along the way. Along the trail there are two resting places where you can sit and enjoy your snacks, a hut and a shelter. Camping is not allowed on Lammassaari.

When you set out on the trail, please allow time. Listen and look around in peace. In spring and early summer you can watch birds nesting or listen to the many sounds of nature awakening. In mid-summer, nature is at its greenest, plants are in bloom and insects are at their best. Autumn brings beautiful hiking weather, and the browns colour the landscape. Nature always has surprises in store, with each hike offering new experiences.

The trail is easy up to trailhead 18, but there are a few steep climbs on the way back through the interior of the island. Sturdy footwear is always necessary.

Lammassari Shore Trail is part of Saimaa UNESCO Global Geopark. Read more
