What to do Hiking and nature Birdwatching

A nature trek with birdwatching as the goal

Lake Saimaa is a favourite region for migratory birds as well. These birds rest their wings in South Karelia in the spring and autumn.

One of inland Finland's best nature sites is Siikalahti's wetland in Parikkala. At Siikalahti, located at a distance from Imatra of about 60 kilometres, you can monitor the activities of birds on a viewing platform along the roadside as well as a little farther away in a birdwatching tower and hidden stall. Siikalahti’s bird wetland is also well-suited as a birdwatching and nature trek destination for the whole family.

Fine places to examine birds also include River Vuoksi’s Imatra centre, Lake Pien-Rautjärvi in Parikkala, and Konnunsuo Fen in Lappeenranta.
