Sculptures and monuments in Lappeenranta

The sculptures and monuments of the city of Lappeenranta describe the city's position on the border, between east and west. The creators of the sculptures have been nationally famous sculptors, who have created the works mostly as custom works or, less frequently, also as a result of open competitions. Lappeenranta also has locally and historically interesting monuments. The works have been influenced by e.g. Karelianism, the role of the workers' and industrial city, the importance of the garrison, and living in the border area in the fortress city.
